Nebal is joined by Lebanese dancer & choreographer, Leila Mire. We discuss Leila's work, her journey in using dance as a tool of expression for her identity, and we  taunt the secret knowledge of a faith you are unworthy of comprehending (err I mean...) we discuss the quirkiness of our religion! ^_^

JON SILPAYAMANANT: DISCOVERING ARABIC MUSIC

1:30 PM - 2:15 PM

Nebal is joined with guest scholar of several non-European traditions including extensive research on Arabic Music, Jon Silpayamanant. We're going to discuss his growing bibliography of maqam research going back to al-Kindi in the 10th century, Arabic music's relationship to other musical traditions, including Western European Classical, and his own background in music scholarship.

JENNIFER JOLLEY: TIPS ON SONGWRITING

4:00-4:45 PM

Nebal is joined with famed composer, Jennifer Jolley! Together we're discussing songwriting and how we use music to interact with and engage with our communities. We talk about how we define community, who we build community with, and provide some insight into ways contemporary classical music can and cannot be a vessel for communal work. 

3PM CDT/11PM Beirut

COMPOSE WITH ME: THE FINAL DRAFT

4:45 PM - 6:00 PM

ANNIKA SOCOLOFSKY: QUEERNESS & IDENTITY DRIVEN ART

6:00 PM - 6:45 PM

Nebal is joined with special guest, Annika Socolofsky as we discuss queerness & identity in artworks, feminist-rager lullabies, and the new Masrhou’ Leila/Mika collaboration that has taken the Arab world by storm.

5PM CDT/1AM Beirut

MARWAN KAMEL: GENRE AS CULTURAL SIGNIFIERS IN MUSIC

6:45 PM - 7:30 PM

Our final guest before the performance is famed musician, polystylistic composer, arts advocate, and member of City Djinn, Marwan Kamel. Marwans work crosses several genres and styles, and similarly to Nebal, aims to use cultural markers and traditional styles in his music. We discuss Marwan's music making process, his influences, and how he's able to create a unique musical voice in his work.

The moment you've all been waiting for. Oud & Violin duo Michal Massoud & Lena Vidulich performs the piece we spent the entire day working on and gives their own presentation in dedicated to Beirut.
